Builders’ Lien Prompt Payment Amendment Act Introduced
The Government of Alberta introduced today Bill 37: Builders’ Lien (Prompt Payment) Amendment Act, 2020.
Alberta Construction Association supports legislative changes which:
- Mandate progressive release of holdback
- Extend the length of the period of liens protection
- Mandate a set length for payment timelines
- Mandate adjudication to resolve payment disputes
ACA appreciates the opportunity to provide technical expertise to assist in drafting future regulations to implement the legislative changes.
ACA also looks forward to partnering with other stakeholder organizations to propose serving as an Authorized Nominating Authority that will provide cost-effective dispute adjudication by recognized industry experts.
