Tech Adoption Is the Face of a New Generation

Stacy Scopano, vice president of innovation at Skanska USA, in a speech to the Associated General Contractors IT Forum claimed that with the pace of technical changes in the world “disruption is the new normal.”

The construction industry is now experiencing “peak disruption,” Scopano said. He described how the new generation would force even faster change on the industry in an article published in Construction Dive.

He claimed that the massive demographic shift that’s bringing Generation Z into the workforce as baby boomers phase out will shift the workforce into areas undreamt of previously. And the tools this next generation will use will be very different from what was in vogue even a decade ago.

A Gen Z high schooler, Scopano said, “can just download a free [CAD] kit, 3D-print it and expect the world to operate differently. And we’ve got to fund it.”
