ACA Red Tape Reduction Advocacy

This summer has been a very busy one for ACA and our board. Since the election of the government this spring we have been working with them to look for ways to cut red tape in the industry across a number of areas.

Our first major win was Bill 2 which returned banked overtime to the former legislation. Through members we were able to launch a social media campaign to tell their stories and while talking about the real hurt this legislation was causing their businesses.

The Labour minister was very positive about this objective and very supportive of our campaign.

During the summer we have met with Ministers to address our concerns along a number of issues including how to eliminate the red tape created by legislation over the past few years.

Past Chair Paul Heynes, minister Jason Copping and Executive Director Ken Gibson

A number of Management Committee met Infrastructure Minister Panda July 25th, in which the Minister expressed some interest in a red tape reduction exercise in standardizing Government of AB contract language.  ACA was invited to make a submission.

Past chair Paul Heyens, Senior Vice Chair Fred Vine, Minister Prasad Panda, Chair Ian Reid and Executive Director Ken Gibson.

As part of that ACA suggested a desire to move toward Electronic bid submissions and away from paper submissions for Seniors and Housing capital programs. The ministry has agreed that a standard practice of electronic submissions makes sense.

We have also been meeting with Red Tape Reduction ministry chief of staff TJ Kiel to talk about our areas of concern on various topics.
