UBC Request For Member Input
The University of British Columbia is currently measuring exposure to respirable crystalline silica among construction workers. They are seeking construction companies to participate in this project. The information collected will be used to adapt the BC Silica Control Tool for Alberta. They developed the BC Silica Control Tool in collaboration with the British Columbia Safety Association (BCCSA) to make silica risk assessment easier and less costly for construction companies.
A UBC occupational hygienist is based in Edmonton. He is visiting construction worksites and taking exposure measurements during common construction activities. Companies who participate will receive a report on the measurements taken at their worksites. All participating companies and workers will be kept completely anonymous in all reports and communications.
If you are interested in having the occupational hygienist visit your worksites, or if you would like to learn more about the project, please contact Dr. Melanie Gorman Ng at mgorman.ng@ubc.ca or at 250-884-3050. Information about the Silica Control Tool is available at: http://www.silicacontroltool.com
